    The PGA nominations are usually a good indicator of what will be nominated for Best Picture because it has a similar voting body as the Academy and uses the preferential ballot system.

    After Golden Globes, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Is The New Best Picture Frontrunner

    1917 winning Best Drama over The Irishman knocks the latter’s Best Picture chances down slightly, making the way for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which won 3 awards last night, to take the top spot. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood received the exact same Golden Globe wins as last year’s Best Picture winner Green Book (Best Comedy/Musical, Best Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor). Interestingly, it also had the same nominations. I will be back with new Oscar predictions once the BAFTA Awards release their nominations at 7:30 UK time.

    Ten films will advance to the next round of voting in the International Feature Film category (formerly known as Foreign Language Film) for the 92nd Academy Awards.  Ninety-one films were eligible in the category.

    Academy members from all branches were invited to participate in the preliminary round.  They must have viewed the submitted films theatrically and met a minimum viewing requirement to be eligible to vote in the category.  Their seven choices, augmented by three additional selections voted by the Academy’s International Feature Film Award Executive Committee, constitute the shortlist.

    In the nominations round, Academy members from all branches are invited to opt-in to participate and must view all 10 shortlisted films in order to cast a ballot.
